Old Coach Road

T5 Old Coach 1

The Old Coach Road is heritage-listed. Where the 3km walk exits the Sanctuary, you have the option to walk the main Mulligans circuit that meanders through forest, woodland and grassy glades along the ACT/NSW northern border. This is an additional 9km and will bring you back to the car park.

How to get there

From Mulligans Flat Schools site continue walking or cycling up the hill. Enter The Sanctuary, where a brochure should be available. Veer to the right, where a sign will indicate The Old Coach Road.

Why is this interesting?

A corridor of eucalypts marks this important link for the early local settlers to Bungendore, Lake Bathurst and, eventually, Sydney. The odd orchard tree is a reminder of early pastoral settlement.

The route starts at Gundaroo Road and runs east through the Mulligans Flat Sanctuary, passing the ACT border on the lower slopes of Gooroo Hill. It later links with Macs Reef Road to cross the Lake George Range and terminates at Bungendore.
